The Rich Man and Lazarus

The Rich Man and Lazarus Lk 16: 19 – 31 26 th Sunday in Ordinary Time Introduction Today’s Gospel talks about the fate of two people in the afterlife. Apparently, the one who was rich was punished and tormented in the fires of hell. The other, named Lazarus, was carried by angels to the bosom of Abraham. The Gospel 19  “There was a rich man [ a ] who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each day. 20  And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, 21  who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich man’s table. Dogs even used to come and lick his sores. 22  When the poor man died, he was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried, 23  and from the netherworld, [ b ] where he was in torment, he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. 24  And he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me. The Dishonest Steward

The Dishonest Steward Lk 16: 1 – 13 25 th Sunday in Ordinary Time Introduction Today’s reading presents to us a parable about a dishonest steward. This parable has always posed an enigma to many because it seems that in the end, Jesus praises the dishonest steward and compares him to those of the children of light. The Gospel 1  Then he also said to his disciples, “A rich man had a steward who was reported to him for squandering his property. 2  He summoned him and said, ‘What is this I hear about you? Prepare a full account of your stewardship, because you can no longer be my steward.’ 3  The steward said to himself, ‘What shall I do, now that my master is taking the position of steward away from me? I am not strong enough to dig and I am ashamed to beg. 4  I know what I shall do so that, when I am removed from the stewardship, they may welcome me into their homes.’ 5  He called in his master’s debtors one by one. To the first he said,

Child's Play

#DAYLIGHT – Daily #MenOfLight#GospelReflection September 18, 2019 Wednesday of the 24 st Week in Ordinary Time Gospel: Lk 7: 31 – 35 Sharer: Bro. Mike Lapid +++++++++++++++++++ THE GOSPEL 31 “Then to what shall I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? 32  They are like children who sit in the marketplace and call to one another, ‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance.      We sang a dirge, but you did not weep.’ 33  For John the Baptist came neither eating food nor drinking wine, and you said, ‘He is possessed by a demon.’ 34  The Son of Man came eating and drinking and you said, ‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ 35  But wisdom is vindicated by all her children.” +++++++++++++++++++ Reflection Child’s play In today’s reading, Jesus uses the imagery of children playing games in the marketplace. God's Enduring Mercy

God’s Enduring Mercy Luke 15: 1 -32 24 th Sunday in Ordinary Time Introduction Today’s reading is about God’s enduring mercy. Jesus wanted us to understand the depth, height and breadth of this mercy by giving us three parables that speak eloquently about it. The Gospel 15  Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. 2  And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.” 3  So he told them this parable: 4  “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? 5  And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6  And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ 7  Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over o

Following Jesus

Following Jesus Lk 14: 25 -33 23 rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Introduction In today’s Gospel, Jesus spells out some requisites to following him. Jesus requires that those who follow him are wholehearted and are ready to detach themselves from any other earthly loves and concerns.   The Gospel 25  Great crowds were traveling with him, and he turned and addressed them, 26  “If any one comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. 27  Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. 28  Which of you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its completion? 29  Otherwise, after laying the foundation and finding himself unable to finish the work the onlookers should laugh at him 30  and say, ‘This one began to build but did not have the resources to finish.’ 31  Or what
