Stay Awake

Stay Awake Mt 24: 37 – 44 First Sunday of Advent Introduction Today’s reading tells us about Jesus who will come at a day and hour we do not know. This reading tells us to remain vigilant and awake as we begin this season of Advent.   The Gospel 37  For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38  For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, 39  and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all away, so too will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40  Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. 41  Two women will be grinding meal together; one will be taken and one will be left. 42  Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43  But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief wa...

Mike Lapid ++++++++++++++++++++ The Gospel 2  “But before all this occurs, they will arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. 13  This will give you an opportunity to testify. 14  So make up your minds not to prepare your defense in advance; 15  for I will give you words and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. 16  You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. 17  You will be hated by all because of my name. 18  But not a hair of your head will perish. 19  By your endurance you will gain your souls. ++++++++++++++++++...

Jesus, Remember Me

Jesus, Remember Me Lk 23; 25 -43 Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe Introduction Today’s reading is about the crucifixion of Jesus according to Luke. Here, we see what kind of king Jesus really is. He is not a king like the kings of this world. He is a king who is crucified yet merciful and compassionate even in the midst of insults and hostilities. The Gospel 35  And the people stood by, watching; but the leaders scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Messiah of God, his chosen one!” 36  The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine, 37  and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” 38  There was also an inscription over him, “This is the King of the Jews.” 39  One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding him and saying, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” 40  But the other rebuk...

The Return of the King

#DAYLIGHT – Daily #MenofLight #GospelReflection November 20, 2019 , Wednesday Gospel: Luke 19: 11 – 28 Sharer: Bro. Mike Lapid +++++++++++++++++++++ The Gospel 11  As they were listening to this, he went on to tell a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately. 12  So he said, “A nobleman went to a distant country to get royal power for himself and then return. 13  He summoned ten of his slaves, and gave them ten pounds, and said to them, ‘Do business with these until I come back.’ 14  But the citizens of his country hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to rule over us.’ 15  When he returned, having received royal power, he ordered these slaves, to whom he had given the money, to be summoned so that he might find out what they had gained by trading. 16  The first came forward and said, ‘Lo...

The End of Time

The End of Time Lk 21: 5 – 19 33 rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Introduction Today’s Gospel speaks about the end times. Jesus says that the end times will surely come. However, while he tells us of its certainty, he warns us not to be deceived by those who come and announce its coming. Jesus, instead tells us to endure whatever trials and tribulations may come and assures those who persevere of their welfare and salvation. The Gospel 5  When some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, he said, 6  “As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down.” 7  They asked him, “Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?” 8  And he said, “Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say, ‘I am he! and, ‘The time is near!’ Do not go after...

The God of the Living

The God of the Living Lk 20: 27 – 38 32 nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Introduction Our Gospel reading is about Jesus clarifying some questions that   some Sadducees posed to him about the resurrection. Jesus’ response is both an affirmation of the resurrection and an insight into the kind of life that awaits us. The Gospel 27  Some Sadducees, those who say there is no resurrection, came to him 28  and asked him a question, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, leaving a wife but no children, the man [ a ] shall marry the widow and raise up children for his brother. 29  Now there were seven brothers; the first married, and died childless; 30  then the second 31  and the third married her, and so in the same way all seven died childless. 32  Finally the woman also died. 33  In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had married her.” 34  J...

Zacchaeus

Zacchaeus Lk 19: 1 -10 31 st Sunday in Ordinary Time Introduction Today’s Gospel is about Zacchaeus, a tax collector in the town of Jericho. Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus but couldn’t because of the crowd. In order to see Jesus, he climbed a sycamore tree. From there, he had an encounter with Jesus which completely changed his life. The Gospel He entered Jericho and was passing through it. 2  A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. 3  He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. 4  So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. 5  When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today.” 6  So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. 7  All who saw it began to grumble and s...
